Specific Actions for Specific Places

Aug 16

Consider placing specific “action” posters pertaining to The BIG Three in specific areas around your school. Ours are just suggestions – every school is different. The goal is to help kids understand specific performance tasks that would mean they are “doing” The BIG Three in an effort that it would become contagious and concrete.

Lunchroom:

I can treat others right by looking the lunchroom workers in the eye and saying “thanks” for my meal that they prepared. I can make a smart decision and use manners while at the lunch table. I can maximize my potential by picking up trash left behind, no matter who it belonged to.

Library:

I can treat others right by returning books to their correct place. I can make a smart decision and always take care of the books I check out. I can maximize my potential by suggesting books I like to other students.

Gym:

I can treat others right by playing games by the rules and not getting upset when someone else wins. I can make a smart decision and wear the proper clothes/shoes to P.E. I can maximize my potential by looking for students who might feel left out and asking them to join in with me!

Hallways:

I can treat others right by staying quiet in the halls and respecting the learning taking place inside classrooms. I can make a smart decision and keep my hands and feet to myself as I walk. I can maximize my potential by recognizing if there is trouble and helping out – either trash that needs to be picked up, a lost student, or a grown up needing help carrying something.

Bathroom:

I can treat others right by respecting their privacy. I can make a smart decision and spend my time in the bathroom doing only what I need to do and not socializing or getting side-tracked. I can maximize my potential by letting a teacher know if someone is not making smart decisions in the bathroom.

Bus:

I can treat others right by using kind words and respectful actions while riding the bus. I can make a smart decision and only talk loud enough for the person next to me to hear. I will also keep my hands and feet in my seat and be sure my personal belongings are out of the way for others. I can maximize my potential by letting the bus driver or teacher know if I feel someone is being treated wrongly. I can be a friend to someone who isn’t being treated the right way.
