What is Project-Based Learning?

Jul 30

Project based learning, or PBL, is the use of classroom projects to engage students and help them learn more comprehensively. A well designed project will encourage the students to challenge themselves, be more receptive to others’ opinions and work together to discuss dilemmas and solve problems—the kinds of abilities needed throughout life.

The approach of having students come together to create their own learning experience is simply remarkable. It gives the students the opportunity to drive the discussion, taking responsibility for their own learning. Core Essentials is a huge believer in this type of methodology, as it fits seamlessly with the Six Pillars of Character:

  • Trustworthiness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Fairness
  • Caring
  • Citizenship

Aside from the growth of personal skills, research has indicated that students are more likely to retain the knowledge gained through this approach far more readily than through traditional textbook-centered learning.
